About The Anna James Foundation for The Arts and who we are
On the campus of Florida A & M University in Tallahassee, FL, in the early 1970s, a young lady named Anna Holloway and a young man named James Wesley met and fell in love. This meeting eventually lead to a marriage full of many shared adventures, achievements, and accolades. The twists and turns that life brought the two of them could challenge even the most skilled biographer
Both Anna and James aways had an admiration for the complexity of the arts. Anna had an affection for art and literature. James loved music. But, the untimely death of Anna in 2024 did not end this love of creativity… in all forms. It sparked the imagination of a place where creatives could receive the help needed to make their dreams come true.
Meet The Founder
It all began with imagination and a dream.
Anja Wesley Crosby, the founder of The Anna James Foundation for the Arts, was deeply inspired by her late mother’s affection for the arts and arts community. Growing up in southern California, Anja was surrounded by the energy of Hollywood. So, fueled by her passion for film and television, she attended the university where her parents met and majored in Broadcast journalism.
Her dream continued, and it took her to PGA TOUR Productions (now PGA TOUR Entertainment) where she interned and upon graduation, worked as a production assistant. But among the many television and film experiences she has had, Anja didn’t just want to be part of the industry— she aspired to shape it using various tools for truth, culture, and social impact.
Her journey through the arts was both personal and purposeful, laying the foundation for what would become a mission to support underrepresented voices. Through the Anna James Foundation, she honors her mother's legacy and her own artistic vision.
